DragonflyTV Kids Do Science - Trebuchet

We're Angus and Jonathon, and we're into really old-school stuff: medieval history! When we are not building castles, playing joust, or reading about knights, we are engineering stuff. Our most recent invention is called a trebuchet, a slingshot-like tool dating back to medieval days that is useful for transporting materials (translation: flinging stuff) long distances. We want to throw out this DragonflyTV question: What trebuchet design will allow us to throw things the farthest?

Once, I made a Cata-trey for a contest i mad. Thats what happends when u put tensioncords on a Trebuchets weights ^^. It Made a Tennis Ball go 200-300 Feet, AND it broke a window. (It was on some high school's grounds.) When that thing was being fired we jumped back. It sounded Like a freaking Rifle crack,(Weights and Tensioncords Hitting The ground.)

Well, about the counterweight. True, the heavier the better. However, up to a point, the differences will be minimal and you'll stress too much the overall structure.

The longer the sling, the flatter the release angle will be. The shorter the sling, the loftier it is. To achieve maximum distance from ground level, you should try to achieve a launch angle of 45 degrees with the horizontal plane.

The longer the string the more time it takes to swing so release point is badly takes longer

actually the sling length should be about 3/4 the length of the longer portion of the arm.

The longest sling should be the best, however the launch angle changes with each sling length which it looks like they failed to change.
