75yrs ago,6201 Princess Elizabeth ran non stop from London to Glasgow, and to commemorate this event, she was again the motive power for Vintage Trains "The Coronation Scot" steam hauled Crewe-Shap-Carlisle-Glasgow and return.
On the outward leg on Saturday 12th November we first see the train storming thru Leyland station (although not ideally placed for the sun) and
then move north for the steady climb past Greenholme, Scout Green and onto Shap. Whilst I filmed until the train went out of sight at Shap Wells I've cut this out due to sound problems). Finally, after a lengthy stop in Carlisle (which meant the run over Beattock would be in the dark) the train passed Metal Bridge nr Gretna after sunset.
The return leg on Sunday sees the train coasting over Metal Bridge, and then Southwaite(south of Carlisle) and finally Galgate (where it was rather breezy and I should have used the mic in the wind blimp -- plus a lucky break with a northbound freight)
Thanks for all who made the tour possible and thanks for watching

  • Another full and excellent day's filming Mike, do you know what's causing the sound issues with your Mic?.....Bob

  • @robmasterman Thanks Bob. I did a couple of things wrong with mics -- on the climb to Shap Wells I used the big wind blimp but with a westerly wind the only sound picked up towards the end of the shot was the noise of the camera so I left that bit out. In the last clip I didn't use the blimp when I should have -- doh !!

ps inspired by your layout I've finally gone into the loft to dust things off -- well actually it needs a bit more than that but it'll keep me quiet over the winter. Mike

  • Excelled yourself this time, Mike. First clip like the classic newsreels, second one of the longest pans I've seen, then a picture postcard shot - you have it all! . . . . . Alan

  • @balmesh Many thanks Alan, you're too kind. It was just a pleasure to see Lizzie in action again and for once I achieved most of what I set out to do -- with a helping hand from the weather. Mike

  • Excellent coverage Mike with a great choice of locations, Lizzies performance at Metal Bridge was outstanding. Thanks for sharing.

    Regards Phil.

  • @981smithy Many thanks Phil, appreciate the comments. Since Lizzie moved to Tysley she has put in some great performances.

    regards Mike

  • @rab4472 Good on you Mike, it will be a great way of spending a few hours during the Winter months, and keep an eye on EBay for parts that may need replacing...I have several locos that are around 45 years old and still going strong....Bob

  • @conncork Thanks for viewing and your comment, Conn. Mike

  • @GreatWestern175 Thanks Ryan. I've read several forum postings about lack of sun, so I really must have been lucky (which makes a change)

    Mike
