This song is a rendition of a part of Saiful Muluk, a 150-year old Sufi poem by Mian Mohammad Buksh, a Kashmiri mystic and poet. The song was performed by Shabbu Lohar and the Jeeway Pakistan Band. Shabbu and his band are from the Naut community, a 600-year old clan of musicians and dancers. We filmed this music video in the congested and electric neighborhood in Lahore, Pakistan, which is home to about 10,000 Naut community members. We hope to build a music and performing arts vocational school in the community.

  • Yes - I did the translation together with one of my relatives - in some cases words could have been interpreted differently - for example I used "estrangement" instead of "poverty" for "gharibi"

  • although the translation is excellent

i have just noticed thet "kund" has been translated as door latch, it should of course be veil!

i think the translator has mixed up "kund" with "kunda"

    strange...

  • thanks for the correction ! I will try to have fixed but not knowing how to use studio final cut pro mysef it will be difficult.

  • SO beautiful. Please tell me the name of this singer or the band name. I would love to visit him and see him sing.

  • there is big difference in tandorri chimta to make chaptis and this chimta is instrument for music.

  • Vidhyarti, kund is the way pronounce it but its the same word, ie veil. The word is translated as lock in the video as I recall, which is kundah in punjabi
