My son, Evan Bell (18 yrs. on 2/24/11), and his hard hitting tag team partner, Jimi Halonen-19, won the men's 18-29 yr-old team sparring championship, sponsored by National Karate and held in Bloomington, MN on April 10th, 2011. (Wow, what a mouthful!) This is the first of three fights it took to win their division. Protocol says to bow to and shake hands with your opponent before and after a match. You'll notice their spoiled sport competitors, despite nailing both Evan and Jimi in their groins, elected not to do that. Poor sportsmanship, to say the least. Oh, well --"You can lead a horse to water..." Team St. Cloud/Sartell ousted Team Arden Hills 12-2 in this battle. Team St. Clolud topped Team Hopkins, 7-6, for the first place victory. The bout ends when you're either ahead by ten points or the clock reaches three minutes, whichever comes first. One point is awarded for a scoring hit, two points for a scoring kick. Evan tests for his Third Degree Black Belt this summer. He's taught karate for three years, providing him a great extra curricular learning experience and spending money while attending St. Cloud's Apollo Senior High School. At summer's end, our second of four children begins his freshman year at St. John's University, located in Collegeville, MN. Evan's the taller of of the two fighters, dressed in maroon and red.

  • Nice work fellas

  • Is it Mr. Bell and Mr. Halonen sparring as a team? If so I was there. O_o

  • Hey, just noticed Gary Halonen's one of the judges. Is that ok to have a parent judging his kid's sparring match? Just askin...

  • wtf iv seen white belt's fight better

  • Wow. Not bowing after a match is so B Carnahan. Karate's supposed to teach you humility, respect and control. Guess those two second degrees aren't even up to white belt yet...

  • those are some vicious spin hooks.
