Please read: These videos, (a little boring) were shot from the stern of the Island Princess cruise ship during our Panama Canal Cruise. While attempting to dock in Huatulco Mexico during tsunami tidal surges after the earthquake in Chile 27th of February 2010. The Captain aborted the docking and made an a emergency exit from the dock and shallow harbor after breaking 2 of the 3 inch morning lines, (large ropes that hold the ship to the pier) and I believe also damaging the ships tension gear as well.
Huatulco has one large pier for ships and several channels that go lead back from there into the town where lagoons and small boats are kept.
With the 7 or 8 tsunami tidal surges we saw many of the small boats were floating unmanned, some capsized with just the bow sticking up from the water and lots of debris floating about. You can see the white water and mud churned up from the volume of water entering and exiting the channel also note the difference in water level on the rocks, beach and docks.
The towns people and small boat operators had to make multiple attempts to get the boats out of the canal and into the larger harbor area to keep them from being damaged.
Please excuse the poor camera operation I was just learning to use this equipment, also the videos might seem a little boring but at time it was very interesting.
