P42DC #5, #67, and #123 lead the Capitol Limited north out of Union Station, before it will switch to CSX's Metropolitan Subdivision and head west to Pittsburgh and Chicago.

  • btw d they always ahve 3 units leading the Capitol Limited or is that just For the SandPatch Grade?

  • It's usually 2 engines, the third engine probably just needed to get to Chicago. Two P42s have a combined 8,500 HP which is more than enough to get the Cap's 9 cars over Sand Patch.

  • I saw that train when leaving Union Station, I would hang around more, but I didnt want amtrak police to harass me

  • Yeah, Union Station would be a really nice spot to railfan if it weren't for all the security, but I guess they have to have it, since it's D.C. and all.

  • nice video 5 stars

  • Thanks!
