The Nation is criss-crossed with train tracks. There are many legends associated with railroads, and one of them is the people called "Hobo's". Where did these vagrants get there name? Hoboken, New Jersey, it turns out! When one of the bums showed up somewhere in the West, someone asked him "Where You From?" , to which he replied "HOBOKEN". Now of course, if your kin are HOBOs, then you must be a HOBO too. So the name stuck, and that is how the Hobos got their name.
And if you don't believe this story, go to Google maps, look up Hoboken, New Jersey, and you will see that all the railroad tracks in the country start in Hoboken, before heading West.
