So laughable, it hurts...
There are some oldies stations here in the US who would stoop low enough to use these soundalike trash recordings.
As already mentioned, Pickwick began outsourcing cover versions from other producers to pad up the TOTP LPs in 1978, hence the bad joke quality from that time onward.

Great vocal here by Martin Jay a far better singer than the early top of the pops crew Martin was the best guy around if a Bee Gees number had to be covered recorded for every one in the 70s and 80s a good singer but Coombe gave him such a lot of rubbish to record

The sad thing is, 'singers' like this now dominate our Saturday night TV on programmes like X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent!

You should hear the Top of the Pops version of Johnny Reggae it is truly awful the woman singing cannot even sing in time to backing music.
Their version of Telegram Sam is just laughable it's pure 70's comedy.

Not Tony's fault! By now Top of the Pops were buying in tracks recorded by Coombe Music, to keep the series limping on. The old team were long gone by volume 89.
