Rodina Tabnak the founder of Baanu Couture began designing and producing pieces with her New York based sister Rozhia in 2008, the aim of the label was to explore the results of objectifying imagination. Baanu Couture is a high-end almost costume like unisex accessories label, however not merely about accessories but are handmade creative pieces that express couture.

Rodina's inspiration comes from 16th Century French Gothic and Elizabethan influences, the unique contrast is in the contemporariness of black and white amongst the classical lace, the lace used is imported from the Mediterranean and is delicately hand stitched to make up each piece. The esoteric style comes from the combination of theatrical and structured uniformity, the modern Rock twist is in the lace/leather and chains used across almost every piece.

Baanu Couture was featured in Fashion Palette 2009 and has collaborated with the top designers to showcase her new range at the Fashion Palette 2010 event in October.
