Pertile had a tremendous voice, but no sense of line, phrasing, or subtlety is demonstrated in this recording.

This is one of my favorite recordings of all time. Pertile is in a place with this aria that other great tenors could only dream.....and you know what, he does it with other arias too, Celeste Aida, Impoviso, O Lola, Ah si ben mio, etc.,.....nobody else has that imagination or technique!!!! BRAVO, MY HERO!!!

listen to how he expands at the big moments without being gross, and how he is capable of sustaining the line effortlessly. The incredible squillo in the entire range, and how he can sing piano without being precious. This is some GREAT SINGING.
