I totally agree that you do not want socialism. It does not work.

You see where I get lost is the fact you have free education. So thats a socialist policy. The reason of course so that everyone gets educated so they can benefit the economy.

Why is the same not true of health care? With a better system less Americans would die unesecarily?

Health, Education, Policing, Military and the Fire service are the only state run businesses I believe in may I add.

The elitists dont want change. They are fine and dont really care f others are suffering. I dont blame them for this. Its human nature.

But democracy favors the majority over the minority! Surely you want to save money by controlling profit margins on drugs?

Surely you dont want any American to die due to a preventable disease?

You need reform. Dont let the elitists fool you.

Real stats that matter are life expectancy. The US is behind the UK, France, Germany and Canada! That takes in to account the 1000s dying from treatable diseases.

The system you have is great for the haves. The have nots its third world. It does not have to cost any money. The UK spends 10-11% of its GDP on healthcare the US spends 17-18%. The UK wastes money on beaurocracy, the US puts profit margins on life saving drugs.

Just spend the money better.

The American tradition opposes a flat social structure; accordingly, not everyone deserves equal care. You have to earn good health care just as you do your house, your car, and all the rest of life's amenities. Americans are capitalists, not socialists and this is the optimum system for those who want to work hard and smart; for those that don't, the short end of the stick is waiting.

Why believe the "backwoods / midwest red state" people? How about some REAL FACTS:
2007 cancer survival rates (taken from "The Lancet Oncology):
a. Colon/rectum cancer: 56.2% survival in Europe, 40% in the UK, and 65.5% in the US.
b. Breast cancer: 79.0% survival in Europe, 69.7 in the UK, and 90.1% in the US
c. Prostate cancer: 77.5% survival in Europe, 51.1 in the UK, and 99.3% in the US
These numbers are thought to be due to LACK OF ACCESS TO EARLY DETECTION due to larger demand than supply.

Your statistics make a good point. But here is the problem: the US is not considering the same systems as either the UK or Continental Europe. So you are comparing apples to oranges. And I reject that the only way to provide great care is to allow millions of others to go without.

ELITIST NONSENSE - People for this bill lack the knowledge, foresight, & creativity necessary to envision anything that'll actually work for our country. They're of the "anything is better than what we have now" mindset, which is WRONG - there are many better options that won't cost trillions & won't indenture the American worker to forever paying more taxes just to pay the interest on the debt this runaway congress is putting on us all. Well my Dad has Migranes and went in On Wednesday. He is having a precationary MRI 12 days later. C sections due to the nature of them you can't be planned.

The UK system works to an 18 week rule (with the exception of cancer which is 2 weeks) You should receive your first treatment within 18 weeks for any condition (exceot cancer 2 weeks) and of course its free.

The problem is that some modern drugs that extend your life when you are terminal are not provided due to their cost

My advice to your dad: Take a 50 mg of Vitamin B2 at night and in the morning. It works for my mom. In all candor for the most part one doesn't need health care: head aches, cold, etc: go to the drug store.
