Traditional song from Karine Polwart's Fairest Floo'er album with pictures from WW1. I acknowledge that this song probably refers to 18th century conflicts, but nevertheless seems apt. With respect to all of those who went through the hell of the trenches which I fear my imagination cannot truly comprehend.

  • Just a note....... This is NOT Karine Polwart's song but a traditional song.

  • @orancarter - quite so - unintended slip

  • @ heliodore - at the risk of flippancy and pedantry - I think you meant what a waste in your message to metzgerliebe! - your sentiments however are agreed with.

  • What a wonderful and moving song and accompanying pictures. My grand-dad fought in Flanders with the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry for three years, and this made me think of him and his friends with love and gratitude. Thanks.

  • I'm also born and raised in Flanders, and I wish - sometimes, more and more - that we separate from the rest from Belgium. Although I have a cousin who fought and died in Broodseinde on the 29th of September, 1918 and my greatgrandfather fought against the Germans during the Campaign that lasted 18 days, of 10 May 1940.

  • I am born and raised in Flanders, i'm also a patriot of my great country. My deepest wish is that my country will someday be independent.
