The first episode in my series of "Let's Plays" for the game "X-COM", using the game rules known as "Ironman", meaning "No saving/reloads" (saves to end session only).

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1146530

The link above is what I patched my (Steam) version with, and has the following patch and mods:

Combo Patch (Developer-Intended Map Fixes)
Voices Patch (Better Sounds From Older X-COM Version)
UFO Extender Mod (Bug Fixes & Improvements)
UFO Extender Config File (This configures UFO Extender to fix bugs and improve game play without departing from original feel.)

Enjoy!

  • Pretty good LP for an awesome game. My one and only pet peeve isnt volume/recording quality or gameplay but the way you talk.. Plllllleeeeeeeeeeease stop muttering. It sounds like youre speaking really quietly, like you dont wanna wake someone up.

  • @bertbargo I'll try to raise my own 'vocal volume'.

Truth be told, I'm trying to not be too loud. :/ My dog doesn't understand that the closed door means I'm recording, and that it' my voice who's speaking. The wife could probably care less. I'll raise my own volume though. Thank you. :)

  • holy shit fix your mic please -_-

  • @methcalin I'm still in the process of getting my recording setup just right. I'm using a turtle beach headset where the microphone is VERY sensitive. It's picking up the fans from my computer. Sorry about that.

  • Voice quality is low with a lot of static. Audio, esp. music is too loud, voice to low. Some sounds are distorted, like shots and tank move for some reason.

  • @Mugrs I'll fiddle with my recording settings (using fraps). My voice settings are goofy; at the moment I'm forced to record from a different machine because the PC with XCOM on refuses to record both. The 'static' is actually the fans from my computer. I'm using a turtle beach headset right now to record, and they pick up every little noise in the room. I'm not sure why some sounds are distorted, but I'll look into it. Thank you.

  • Secondly regarding naming of troops, instead of all those numbers, I would simply use a couple extra letters to signify who is a sharpshooter / sniper with an underscore S, "_S". So if a unit of mine has two primary stats that are high, like Firing Accuracy, and Reactions, I would name them like this: "James_S-R". If a Unit has high Strength, I'd name like this: "Bob_H" H standing for Heavy of course. Your naming system is fine too, I just don't like a bunch of numbers for my own gameplay.

  • Personally, I would likely start the game, place my base and check my starting recruits. Namely just to get a decent if not above average team, even if only 2-3 soldiers were fairly good / ideal. Then I would either restart or continue from there. Those soldiers would be a secondary wave, so survival is more likely for them while the less skilled troops would charge into the battlefield like Kamikaze psychopaths in the first wave. As if I hired some volatile prisoners or something...

  • heh 4:25, A "forum," indeed. How bout that? :P

  • thats quite a sexy voice you got there
