Circulated by the British government's 'Ministry of Food' around 1944, this food flash encourages thrift, insisting that cans of milk and jam are just as good as bottles. (I'm not so sure....!)

An extract from a longer film "WARTIME TRAILERS" (c.1944), a government trailer attempting to instill the virtue of the wise shopper and saver during wartime, promoting National Savings Certificates, and the use of skimmed milk from the USA.

This clip is from the Scottish Screen Archive collection. For more information about this film including details of how to obtain a copy please follow this link: http://ssa.nls.uk/film.cfm?fid=1770

  • As is often the case in times of war and economic decline, it's the simple ideas and food stuffs that get you through and only those who are silver spoon-fed will really feel the pinch. we could do with such common sense films now for the slow of thinking and the spoiled and pampered and obese!

  • @Markzilla01 Actually, the poor tend to be overweight because healthier foods tend to be expensive.
