An American Jing Ju (Chinese Opera, Peking Opera) story based on real-life events. This story and video was created by Yvonne Juarez with the help of her classmates at Chu Shan Chinese Opera Institute.
But I was first introduced to Jing Ju at the University of Oklahoma, by a graduate student. There was a professor there with knowledge of Jing Ju. Don't know if she is still there.
I want to assure you that Jing Ju IS known to Americans! I received my MFA in Asian theater from the University of Hawaii.I studied in Shanghai as the first Western student ever invited to attend. My teacher was Lu Yi Ping, the "Golden Voice of Shanghai". Because of her, I was able to perform for the Yifu Theater's New Year celebration of 2001. What an honor!!!
She put her heart to this story. It is an interesting life story. It is great that she wants to introduce Jing Ju culture to Americans. If she added a small video clip of her performance, it would be even better.
Pretty good story, I can feel the passion of these kids for Jing Ju, but it also let me felt this is an very old story, because all the pictures she put are so old not clear
If she can put a potion of real action- movie format, it will be more attractive. This is my thought
As a Chinese, I never had the chance to learn or touch this field. But when I saw yr vedio, I felt it's amazing to combine all movements with acting & art painting ,singing, costume, music into the characters. It's not easy but attractive. I should let my grandchildren to have the chance to know about it more. I might go watching Jing Ju once again to see my reaction may also changed over these years. Thanks for sharing.
This is so awesome, Im envious you had such an opportunity to do Jingju.
