The Tamale Factory Bldg. is a wonderful structure, inspired by that used in the Mission Inn -- located just across Main st. -- but modernized to suit contemporary materials and codes, and is a rare example of exceptionally designed exterior architecture in the city of Riverside.
Why is it a rare example? Ask the mayor why the city is normally putting up boxy buildings whose exterior design is often no more than a cube with a mere addition of heavy cornices at the roof.
We have enough of these. Now let's move on to exterior designs inspired by a different era, using a different motif. The Tamale Factory Bldg. is an example that should inspire other developers to create their own unique architectural solutions for the city.
While you are there, take a leisurely walk down the short but pleasant alley on its right side to observe the courtyard enclosed by the charming wrought iron fence, and experience the Tuscan-style ambiance created by a generous display of Italian terracotta pots containing plants with wide foliage.
Nice touch, especially apparent in the eve. when lamps from doorways and windows come on and shadows cast by the plants dance on the warm wall.
Nice job, and there are some great places in the Inland Empire if folks know where to look...
