The M548 is a 6 ton cargo carrier based on the chassis of the M113. The museum has modified theirs to give tracked vehicles rides to members of the public.
@alpha18412 true for us too. The ammo was carried by MLVW or 5 ton. The 548 was not even used..just to carry extra creature comforts, water etc. i drove one for about a year..i liked it!
Well I had the pleasure of driving these things. They were used as missile support vehicles in the 80's by 22 and 12 Air Defence Regiments. THey carried 20 Rapier Missiles. The heating never worked and they were as slow as Moses. THe Towed Rapier guys of that era did get alot wetter than we did though, hahahaha. But nevermind eh, by the way they were fucking loud aswell
Best little "supply "vehicle I ever had to deal with. In my FA Bn everybody always worried about the M109s but no one cared about the 548s. They were always ready to go.
