I saw it live and I saw it again now - Ulf leaned into it when he saw Neely drift left and in my opinion he hoped for contact that would take Neely out of the game. That was Ulf's playing style and I see nothing that shows he meant to avoid hanging up Neely's leg with his own. He knew Neely's posture as he poked the puck would make him vulnerable and he took everything he could on Neely. You can see him stiffen his left leg
