This baby gorilla loved to play with human children in its size range.

The gorilla (gorilla gorilla) is the largest of all living primates. These African apes are divided into two species and 4 or 5 subspecies. Their DNA is 97-98% identical to that of humans and they are considered the next closest relative after the chimpanzee. Gorillas can be over 6 feet tall and weight over 500 lbs. They are highly intelligent. Some such as Koko have been taught a subset of sign language. They use tools for a number of purposes. Colo in the Columbus zoo is over 50-years old and the first gorilla born in captivity.

The Columbus Zoo, Ohio, is number 1 in the country USA Travel Guide (Columbus Dispatch 2009.03.01 p. A3)

This group of Gorillas includes Colo. The 2011 Guinness World Records book shows that Colo is the world's oldest gorilla at 53 years old. She lives at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. She holds many more amazing records.

  • Having lived in a cage once and not being able to leave when I wanted and being subjected to cruel conditions and no freedom. I would almost agree to the adage of "better to live one day in the wild, than your life in captivity". When I was caged, all I thought about was when I had been free. I would bet the animals do the same.

  • Why did you have to live in a cage?

  • I was stupid. It was a jail cell. Long story. But that was a long time ago. But I still remember the agony of losing my freedom. But I grew up, and became a decent Father, started a business a recovered from my mistakes.

  • Glad everything turned out well.

  • It saddens me to say but I also agree with treewhatzit . Its better for them to be at least safe and without the stress of man tearing their habitat apart for trees etc. Somehow and this may be impossible but to educate the people who eat bushmeat and to educate them to other protein foods. Howver , my feeling for poachers is kill them on the spot.

  • It's glass, genius.

And it's sad too. Imagine living you entire life behind a glass wall. Poor animals.

  • @LetsPlayDMods I agree 100%. The kids had a great interaction going with the Mother and Baby gorilla. Don't get parents like that, everything on a time schedule.

  • @ridgerunner98570 Zoos aren't just animal prisons. They work hard and spend millions trying to make every animal happy and healthy. Keeping animals in captivity for display isn't just about entertaining people, it's also about educating people, encouraging appreciation for nature and SAVING species from an unnecessary extinction. Zoos put a massive amount of effort each year into preserving and protecting species in the wild :)

  • what a cute baby gorilla

  • What kind of idiots are the adults in the background? The children are clearly interested and want to stay with the apes, yet the adults are all like "Come let's go" all the time. I mean, for fucks sake, if you go to a zoo, at least stay with the animals for a while.

  • @bede86 gettin' your kicks on youtube comment forums? you know there's porn sites for that right

  • if advanced aliens came, and found us primitive, how would you feel if they displayed us in glass boxes.

  • @bede86 Sorry, ridgerunner. Inside a cage is not the way to treat any animal. What did these do to deserve such treatment? Only to prevent extinction...but who was responsible for that in the first place? We're not doing very well in a lot of places. Wild animal parks are a step in the right direction. Sorry again about your ordeal.

  • I'd howl if I saw a gorilla give the finger to visitors.

  • Wow! Gorilla babies have temper tantrums too! Look @ 1:20 to the end! LOL! He ran back to the first glass pane where he/she was playing and realized the kids werent there anymore and had a fit! LOL! Too funny & cute ;) Gorilla mamas go through that shit too I guess! LOL

  • very poor photograhy Too much camera moving, hard to watch otherwise very nice
