The Ivan Papanin joins the BELARE team to prepare the building of the Belgian Antarctic Station.

The BELARE 2006-2007 expedition, led by Alain Hubert from the International Polar Foundation, is preparing the construction of the Belgian Antarctic Station scheduled for November 2007.

Read the military reports of the transport phase on the Ice-Class cargo ship "Ivan Papanin" and about the exciting adventure in Antarctica.

  • @pinz2022 why do any of them need an Antarctic station?

  • Were doing research there studying the climate. Belgium is responsable for controlling the quality off the north sea. We have a ship with many equipment, like a small laboratory (Belgica). It's not new Belgium and the Netherlands are known for our oceanic research. And also for building dams and dikes. The New orleans dam project is with a Dutch-Belgian company. We were 1 off the first countries facing those problems because were low lying countries.

  • OK, I give up. Why does Belgium need an Antarctic station?
