Fire destroys Galena office

Five area fire departments answered a call at the offices of attorney Julie Helman on the corners of Bench and Franklin Streets in Galena Friday night.

Galena Fire Chief Mike Simmons said that area municipalities sent equipment and more than 50 firefighters to control the blaze.

Firefighters and law enforcement personnel evacuated approximately 45 residents from surrounding homes and American Red Cross Northwest Illinois Chapter Director of Emergency Services Frank Bruscato said his organization is working to provide temporary housing at Country Inn and Suites in Stockton for the displaced families.
