@primitiveskills Thanks guys, those videos highlight the importance of keeping dead airspace to a minimum and give a good explanation for avoiding the crossed spars. While my trials using this technique remained dry throughout some fairly heavy rain it was fairly short lived so didn't have chance to pack down the debris.
I think my main gripe was the torrent of unhelpful comments this post received. Thank you for taking the time to provide a constructive alternative view.

@awebreeze My worry is that folks will see this vid and think they can have a shelter that will effectively keep them alive via the retention of their own radiant body heat. This is far from the case. I offer our own debris hut series as a constructive response to this careless approach. Much respect.

@UnkleAzazael While this video is misleading and could potentially lead to harm/death for those who watch it and assume this design will work, it is important to recognize the effort. In the interest of correction and positive criticism we have a debris hut series at our channel based on multiple years of full survival and decades of instruction if folks are interested in the nuances of this otherwise highly effective shelter design.

For anyone interested in finding a resource for an effective debris hut design check out Maine Primitive Skills School. They teach at least a dozen people each month how to build their own huts that actually work in temperatures well below freezing and they've been doing it for over 20 years. Scan through their "instructional videos" page and you'll find some stuff.

Exactly, poor research done by expert village.
ur not meant to let them cross over becaus when it rains the debre will fal inbetween the ribs and push them away eventually resulting in a wet debre hut

You must be an idiot. You are not suppose to cross the sticks because water will gather when it rains and once it builds up you will get dripped on while you are sleeping. Next time you try to exlain how to do something, make sure you know how to do it right
