One of Mark Knopfler's greatest songs ever composed, certainly one of my favourites. This is the live version from the end of the concert featured on the greatest hits CD, and the tab is in the tab book of the same title. Local Hero is a film that featured this music, and Mark also wrote music for The Princess Bride (great film, great music!)

Once again, Mark Knopfler Signature Strat and Marshall 30W amp.

That's a can of Lynx Africa in the left of shot and my bed is satisfyingly unmade...

  • @davidsguitarhelp Thanks so much for your kind words but for goodness sake don't learn it the way I did! It's a mess and your hand is all over the fret board, much better to keep it all around the 7th fret if you can work out the notes from there. I'm a bit of a Knopfler fanatic :-)

  • ignore these losers you played it perfect the best ive seen apart from mark him self of course the losers that are giving you the crap probably cant even play it them selfs as it is one of the hardest songd ive learnt the losers probably just love giving crap to make them selfs feel hgood sorry ill shut up now good playing anyway

  • Thank you for your kind comments.

The other posters do have valid points, in that the backing track IS too loud and the technique I use to play is far from the most efficient. Again, thank you and I would be interested to see your video if you decide to make one. Like you say this is a tricky song to play and even more tricky to play WELL!

    All the best

  • lovely rendition ... I'm working on this too and hope to post a vid soon ... about the tabs showing different positions ... a lot of music books are written by musicians that don't necessarily play guitar ... the notes are all ok but the hand position might not be the best or the one that matches the artists own way of playing it

    5*

  • Thank you, I would be interested to see that video, let me know when it's up?

  • I guess you've learned this song from a tab book, as you play the beginning wrong. It should be a D barre chord (7th position) instead of the open D chord you're playing.

  • Yep you're absolutely right. Why an official tab book would teach you the wrong way to play it is beyomd me... One day I'll learn the right way...

  • Beautiful. Can you play any of the tracks from the Princess Bride? x

  • Just tried to work out how to play the middle passage of this by ear and was quite pleased for a little while.....then I saw your beautiful rendition of the whole lot - which sounds so pretty damn close to 'the Knopler' himself - that I'm really quite humbled. Brilliant!

  • Excellent!!!

  • Superb mate! Floated my boat and I have been playing for fifty years. Please please ignore these idiots who tell you you're playing in the wrong positions or whatever. It was a cracking performance and I for one don't care whether you were playing it with the guitar upside down!

  • When are you going on tour, man ???

    It´s awesome !!!

  • Absolutely note perfect, great to see you have so much attention to detail.l

  • Touches the soul man top stuff!!!!

  • I saw all your clips.

    I think you're very good.

In 30 years of music i think that this song is one of the best ever in all genres.

    imho

  • Dany, you play very very well! Congrats !!! A terrific performance!!! I love this song!
