Also of note here: In re Ralph, the very first Iowa Supreme Court decision - made even before Iowa was actually a state! - refused to allow the abduction of a former slave residing in Iowa back to his former master in Missouri. Iowa has long been at the forefront of American civil rights, and the understanding Iowa would remain so was enshrined in our Constitution.

...So until he stops his blatant exploitation of our democracy (which I agree is wonderful) please consider voting for the retention of the original judges who agreed unanimously that our constitution supports equal rights for homosexuals. The only one up for retention this time is Wiggins. So please think hard about voting to retain him. The rest on the ballot feel free to vote no on. Cause you gotta shake things up right? Thanks.

    Exactly. They ARE people.

Interesting history to dive into, same sex vows were practiced by the Church until the 17th century. They were vows though and NOT marriage.

Marriage served a VERY different function, it united two people of diff. clans into a single blood lineage before God (represented by the priest) and their respective families and communities for witness.

Paul's anti homo rhetoric opposed child temple prostitutes and earlier Biblical refs. were largely circumstantial laws.

"All laws of a general nature shall have a uniform operation; the general assembly shall not grant to any citizen, or class of citizens, privileges or immunities, which, upon the same terms shall not equally belong to all citizens."_ Iowa constitution. The Declaration of Independence has NOTHING to do with the laws in this country. The Constitution does. Dogs are unable to consent. Adult humans of sound mind are.

Do you understand this is not something that can be voted on? It goes back to Tyranny of the majority and why the US is a Republic and NOT a Democracy. You cannot put someone else's civil rights up to a popular vote. The Iowa constitution says "All laws of a general nature shall have a uniform operation; the general assembly shall not grant to any citizen, or class of citizens, privileges or immunities, which, upon the same terms shall not equally belong to all citizens."

I'll bite, So if your god and religion is different then mine, which is constitutionally and legally acceptable, then what? Who's god is right? Looks like we need a constitution and set of laws created for all the different gods and religions? No, because the constitution clearly provides for everyone, including peoples right to choose when, how, and who they worship. Oh just for the record, the law does not allow marrying the dog.

That's definitley not what is at stake, there is no "brand new law" to vote on here, You are voting whether to retain judges. My point again, is If people are not happy with the laws or state constitution the Judges use to write their decisions your problem is not with the Judge. Judges do not create the law or constitution, your politicians do, so vote them out! What is at stake is mixing politics with the judicial branch, which will further remove the impartial process of law.

Gay rights is just like women suffrage and the civil rights movement. You can have a choice to either be on the right side of history or the wrong side of history and I am proud to say that I am on the right side. Life is about changes and this is the correct change that needs to be done and whether you like or not it WILL be done. Mark my words. I'm a proud Iowan who voted YES and you should too.

You bet I voted all the judges back in. The ones who don't are clearly corrupted with mind boggling selfishness, idiocy and just plain rudeness. Gay and lesbian people should never be 2nd class citizens, no one should. They are PEOPLE, just like you and me and if you can;t understand that then that;s just sad.

Why is there an option to vote a judge out then? Is this the part of Iowa law that's wrong?
