This opening cadenza of track 2, side one of "Out of the Blue" is characteristic of Mackenzie Theory's instrumental guitar rock symphony.

Rob Mackenzie was leader of his (former) band Mackenzie Theory, which released 2 live LP records ("Out of the Blue" and "Bon Voyage") in 1973 and 1974, before Rob flew out of Melbourne in 1974 with his guitar bound for London.

Since then, Rob has lived and played in London, France, NY, and for the past 20 years, L.A.

  • I was at their farewell concert at the Ormond Hall, Prahran. Discovered them too late ! Am glad to have recently found the re-issued CD.

  • @simplefolkband British Clear light ,brown pryamids and grey dots. ;-)

  • I remember seeing Mackenzie Theory in the early 70's before Rob went OS.. An inspirational time for sure...

  • This stuff has seen light of day as a CD re-issue on Aztec Music

  • i used to watch this band in the 70's. ,We used to drop acid trips and go to their shows truly amazing. Wish tere was some videogreg shhehan the drummer and cleis pearce continue playing great music till this day in the northern rivers of nsw australia and elsewhere

  • Thanks for posting this! I really got off listening to my cassette copy 'Bon Voyage' not too long after discovering Sebastian Hardie...another seminal Aussie progrock outfit.

  • I was there too!

  • I was too young to see MT in the 70's. But I have seen Rob play live since. He's related to some farmers near Lake Bolac in Western Victoria, and a few times back in the 90's he played some gigs at Lake Bolac pub and hall, just for the locals. All I can say is what an awesome guitarist! He was a wizard with his black Les Paul with Bigsby trem. Played awesome covers of Peter Gun and other surf tunes. Unforgetable experience.

  • Come back Mckenzie Theory!

  • tf much was in brunswick street so close enough as far as carlton goes.
