Man with Cerebral Palsy donates a brand new wheelchair!

On Sept. 24, 2006, Melinda & Kevin delivered a wheelchair to the foundation's first client, Charles Hernandez of Des Moines, WA! Charles became paralyzed on his left side two years ago after being shot in the head three times & having a stroke six months later, forcing him to quit his labor-intensive job. He has found it difficult to interact with his young daughter, niece, or nephew, even being unable to walk them to school a block away. With Melinda & Kevin having a 2-year-old daughter themselves, just the thought of not being able to interact with her broke Kevin's heart. They are THRILLED to give Charles his independence back so he can start to access life again!

Sabrina Kang of KOMO 4 News did an incredible story on the special delivery to Charles.

It was just phenomenal to watch the transformation of this Charles' attitude, outlook, and expressions over the course of an hour as he went from a manual chair (being pushed by others) to a power chair with seat elevator that he could operate himself. Quite literally, after 30 minutes of being in the chair, dreams and ideas came pouring out of him as he realized all the new possibilities in front of him! It was just....WOW!!!!!!!!!
