Tom Aviles, 2004. This story won an Emmy. But I remember Tom telling about this dedication to this story. The opening shot of the birds flying took an entire day's worth for that one shot.

EXCELLENT!!! As a news photog I frequently look for ways to simulate production equiptment with what i'm given e.g. booms, cranes, dolly etc. In this peice it is obvious that a crane was used. When attempting to simulate such a movement, I typically hold the camera by the top handle but given that we work with full size sony XD cams it's a little hard to get the fluid movement im looking for. Anyone have tips or tricks that they've found work for such movements?
