  • Lonesome to the Senator at 0:48 "...hows my old bunkmate?"

Insinuating the senator did time in a country jail. Funny...

This movie is just as relevant today as it was in the 50's, maybe even more so.

  • It's indeed a creepy, chilling performance, and personally I think Andy Griffith squandered his talent for many years by doing that cornpone sitcom. But, after all, it WAS a steady paycheck.

It's a bit like younger people today being amused at seeing Leslie Nielsen in serious roles (e.g. "Forbidden Planet"). Nielsen spent the first half of his movie career doing dramatic roles and only re-invented himself as a comic actor with 1980's "Airplane!"

    yah ; D

  • An awesome performance in a great rarely seen movie.

  • I find it interseting that you are suspicious about someone's video likes and dislikes. Should the racist Right's attempt to take "Our County Back from that Nazi Nigger!" in a military coup (still in the early planning stages) succeed, I'm sure that you'll find a job right away in the Republican Right's new version of 1940 Germany's Gestapo. Maybe you should get ahead of the game and add "scotpens" to your list of suspicious people? Good luck on your new career!

  • That may be the only thing I agree with them about. "Left" and "Right" have lost all meaning.

It all boils down not to calling balls and strikes, but who makes the stike zone.

  • I pretty much agree. In fact, I do agree.

Andy Griffith could have gone in a different direction. But I won't fault him for settling instead for a steady paycheck.

He's now 83 and can command his own price. He's good enough to bring back Lonesome Rhodes in a remake. Especially if Kazan were still here to make it. Although he probably wouldn't do it.

  • It's funny, though: for those of us who know him best as Andy Taylor and Ben Matlock, to say nothing of "No Time for Sergeants," this is a downright *chilling* portrayal by Andy Griffith. Yet if you watch the trailer, while he had made some television appearances at the time, this was more or less his *introduction* in films!!! I wonder if film audiences were as shocked by his performance then as we tend to be now?

  • I certainly agree that a lot of the left wing agenda is not good. All that bs about global warming is a good example. It is just a way to get the public to give the state more control over their lives. And why is it that so many left wing media outlets get Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation grants? The Dodd Commission found back in the 50's that these big tax exempt foundations seek out left leaning professors and support them with grants. Why? Far right or far left, we get tyranny

  • The labels "liberal" and "conservative" don't mean much these days. What we really have are coercive utopians of the left, and the same thing on the right. Everyone wants to force their ideology and their social agenda on everyone else. I consider myself an Objectivist / Libertarian. While I don't agree with the more extreme wing of Libertarianism, I think overall that's the only political / social philosophy that makes sense.
