Going to Meet my Sweetie Now was recorded by Goldkette for Victor Records in New York January 31, 1927. A slideshow of silent movie sweethearts is shown with this music.

Goldkette always featured the best jazzmen - Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Eddie Lang, Joe Venuti, Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trunbauer to name but a few. Goldkette was born in Greece, studied music at the Moscow Conservatory and was classically trained. His family moved to Detroit while he was a teen and he started in the music business there. His bands were always the best of the day - ranking with Fletcher Henderson and Paul Whiteman's players. He dropped out of jazz in 1933 to become a classical soloist-his true love all along. Most of his band members were picked up by Whiteman.

I think this recording is the later version. I hear differences in the orchestration and instrument solos.

According to the Victor discographies, the recording presented with my vid is 25354B, cut 1-31-27 NY as Going to Meet My Sweetie Now-flip of 25354A, Slow River. The reason for the difference in the orchestration is that you have presented Victor 20675B, also cut 1-31-27, NY,also titled differently as I'm Going to Meet My Sweetie Now. Victor 20675A is Nat Shilkret's Me & My Shadow.

Please note, the first still is actually Raymond Griffith with Betty Compson in PATH'S TO PARADISE (1925), not Monte Blue. Love this tune. I had previously used it with THE LOVE EXPERT.

Victor often featured TWO orchestras on one record during the '20s, 'preservationhall'. That was their way of getting the most from their vast roster of "exclusive talent" under contract. It wouldn't be unusual to hear Paul Whiteman's band on one side, and, say, Fred Waring's orchestra on the flip side.
