Written by Berry in 1955, he has acknowledged that the song is partly autobiographical, and originally had "colored boy" in the lyrics, but he changed it to "country boy" to ensure radio play. The song is of such musical significance that it was included on the Voyager Golden Record, attached to the Voyager spacecraft as representing rock and roll, one of many cultural achievements of humanity. The song was also featured in the classic 1985 film Back to The Future, a favourite of the Moon Loungers, where it was performed by Marty McFly at a high school dance. This version is performed by the Moon Loungers evening band, Bristol's finest wedding band.
