  • Thanks to all the comments about my video. As with any piece of music, some play it better than others. I offer this video as just another interpretation of a truly great piece. Hopefully, some will find it beneficial, but some may not. Either way, I am happy with my performance of it, and feel that it is representative of my playing at the time I recorded it. In the future, I hope I will be able to play it even better than before.

And thank you to drummerchick88 for the kind words.

  • The stupidity of the comments for this video astounds me. Listen up, ducklings. Until you have your own name on drumsticks, mallets, and drumheads, you can just shut up about technique and interpretation. Point his, he does it his way and has been able to make a good living out of it, so all the things you point out as WRONG really just don't stack up; interpretation and technique are subjective.

  • Dude....all seriousness...why do people LOOK for things that are wrong as though they.are experts? The only time I did that was when I was a beginner who thought that because I knew a thing or two about rudiments and what a fulcrum was that I was God's gift to the community of percussion. This is a very noteworthy performance of a very noteworthy composition for the concert snare drum. The end.

  • dude. guys, read his bio and then think about whether you should be giving him technique tips. just sayin, he's probably just fine without them. (although I acknowledge that you can learn something from just about anyone)

  • what? no rim shots. Not a very innovative composer

  • Try to play this piece without your index fingers on the stick. Just let them dangle. Only then will you truly relax your fulcrum enough to 1) play with a smooth, connected sound (on the alternated 16th's) 2) Allow your wrists to relax 3) Learn how to not rely on the fulcrum death grip as your only buzz roll mechanism 4) Prevent future injury so that you can sound killer for a long time.

If you take some time to "open" your hands up and relax your grip I think you will see major improvement.

  • okay performance ....ornaments much to open for French music, in addition, you look very tense. Rolls are inconsistent but time is good. Continue your studies, you are on your way to understanding the snare drum.

    Best of luck.

  • tight, the low end cuts really well. Perhaps it's the room.

    either way, well played.

  • Nope. He's basically stabbing the drum. It's pretty funny.

  • im pretty sure Brad knows how to hold his sticks...
