I was away for a while, but now I'm back, in a big way. Miss me?

Here's a little fantasia on one of my favorite songs to jam on, Pink Floyd's "Fearless", with some sonic sparklies tacked on to the end... what can I say, I got carried away. I hope this will inspire some of the other great musicians on my friends list to tackle some other obscure Floyd gems.("Fat Old Sun", anyone?) And feel free to chime in with "You'll Never Walk Alone" during the lead out here.

As always, please pardon my vocals.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.) What kind of guitar is that? What kind of strings?
-It's a tobacco sunburst Simon & Patrick dreadnought cutaway, handmade in Canada, and purchased at Dusty Strings in Seattle, the best acoustic instrument store I've ever been to. For strings I usually use D'Addario Light Top/Heavy Bottom mixed sets, but I'm not really that particular, if I can't find them I'll use whatever's around (except for light gauge strings - light strings are unmusical and an insult to any decent guitar. I hope none of you ever use them.) By the way, Guitarist In Progress's pick of choice is the Dunlop Tortex Purple. I'll use a Tortex Blue under duress but for me the purple ones are the best. They've got just the right combination of strength and sensitivity (just like me.)

2.) Are you playing this in Open G Tuning?
-Yep, as usual.

3.) I can't see your hands, man!
-Ohhhhh, so you thought you'd steal my riffs, huh? Just kidding. Actually, sorry about the poor framing. Sometimes I get a good take when I'm just fooling around and haven't found good camera placement yet... after I saw how this came out, I did a bunch more takes of this with the camera positioned so you could see my hands, but couldn't come up with another performance I liked as much. Maybe after this has been up for a while, I'll post one of the later takes so you can see some of the licks.

For those who want to see a good riffalicious video where my hands are clear, check out "Drunken Hearted Man ('Check Out My Riffs' version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDQcvpwStsg

4.) Is all this improvised?
-Yeah, I can never seem to play a song the same way twice. It's a mixed blessing.

5.) Which one's Pink?
-Roger Waters.

  • Funniest thing I've seen all week. So wrong, and yet right, in a weird way. My cup of tea.

  • @willbond You clearly Get It. (Or, Got It, sorry for the incredibly late reply.) Thanks!

  • don't listen to the idiots. some people just don't get it. this was a cool, bluesy interpretation.

  • @bhawksfan4vr Thanks. It's cool, man. I get way more positive comments than negative, and if someone's opinion is honest, I respect it either way. I'm just on this to have fun.

  • dude, listenin to this makes me want to turn off my computer and pick up my guitar!!!! iam really diggin the blues runs, by far the most original cover of fearless that i've ever herd!!!

  • @lizardkingvoodookid >" listenin to this makes me want to turn off my computer and pick up my guitar!!!! "

That is the single biggest compliment you could pay me. Thanks!!!

  • i like when ppl do their own things rather than copy what somone has done . its dope he made it bluesy

  • No, it definitely wasn't :-) although in my own mind, I always heard a bluesy element added, owing to peculiarities in my brain chemistry due to getting thunked on the head by a Blind Willie Johnson 8-track tape when I was very young. So for my take on it, I just played it out the way I heard it.

  • I like the free style, bluesy funk. A little sloppy, so that makes it great.

  • brilliant , captured the spirt beautifully

  • brilliant

  • i like the guitar work a-lot

  • Love it.

  • brilliant...

  • Nice playing! Although I have to disagree about light strings being "unmusical" and an "insult" to any "decent" player (for the record, I don't play light strings). They sound brighter and have more definition than heavier gauge strings - just because they're easier to play doesn't necessarily mean that they have less musicality; they just have a different tone. Although I believe it is just lazy to play light gauge because of the ease of play, rather than because you prefer the sound.

  • What tuning are you in?? did you use a tab for this?? or just mess around??

Capo?.. i'd love to learn this tune similar to the way you've played it here

  • killer version man... love the intro
