The House considers H.R. 2929, Banning Permanent U.S. Bases in Iraq. This bill states that it is the policy of the United States not to establish any military installation or base for the purpose of providing a permanent stationing of United States Armed Forces in Iraq. It also states that it is the policy of the United States not to exercise U.S. control of the oil resources of Iraq. The measure bars the use of any funds provided by any law from being used to carry out any policy that contradicts these statements of policy.

  • The only person through out history who has successfully controlled Iraq and that portion of the world was Caesar and he did it with an iron fist, meaning whoever tried to move against him were killed. Their people quickly learned you either go with the flow and live or you get killed. Knowing this it can be safely assumed that that portion of the world will never be stable. We can literally be there for the next 20 years "stabilizing" their government and once we leave it will fall apart.

  • @patsagainstrats If you study history it can be safely assumed that Iraq and that part of the world will forever be in turmoil and at the hands of dictators. So far there has only been one ruler in history who has controlled that part of the world, it was Caesar and he did it with an iron fist.

  • Well she has balls to go against the Neocons

  • All your base are belong to us

  • At least we agree the US needs to stay in Iraq until their security issues have been stabilized, and their government is on its feet.

Saddam murdered hundreds of thousands of people over the course of his regime. If you think it was a picnic there before we deposed him, you, my friend, are deluded. There are probably people who would have preferred al-Qaeda to that madman.

BTW, I don't buy the liberal buzz word of "imperialism."

  • It isn't a question of peace, its standing up to people like you who think that mindset is somehow acceptable.

Al-qadea wasn't in Iraq until the war. They are there now so we need to stay and fight them. It's also the responsibility of our generation to help them clean up the mess in Iraq.

However, I won't see my country continue to be turned into some Imperalistic regime to benefit the elite. If we lose our freedoms and dignity while facing the enemy then they've won.

  • Hey, I believe in law enforcement, yet I don't feel compelled to become a police officer. If you're so hell-bent on peace at all costs, why don't you forfeit all you worldly goods and become a monk?

  • Listen your puerile rambings might seem cute to you, but they aren't. Your nothing more than some online thug that believes by threatening others gives you some sense of dignity.

It doesn't. You can continue to type this garbage, but the truth is if you had any guts you'd be serving in Iraq or out on the streets protesting against those that you hate so much.

  • He voted against the Patriot Act.

He voted against regulating the Internet.

He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.

He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

  • what america needs now is Ron Paul, he is the only GOP candidate supporting a pullout from Iraq. Not only that he:

He has never voted to raise taxes.

He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.

He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.

He has never voted to raise congressional pay.

He has never taken a government-paid junket.

He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
