  • Translation (4/4): Lumumba is arrested and tortured and forced to, literally, eat his independence speeches.

Afterwards he disappears and everyone speculates that he has been murdered, which turns out to be true. When he is publically announced as "Found dead while trying to escape"

on 12/2/1961. Since then Lumumba has joined the pantheon of African martyr-heroes that died for independence and freedom and became a symbol of that cause.

  • Meanwhile all the Europeans left in the country started to leave.Few natives were educated, thus leaving Congo without doctors mechanics and public servants. And when the situation forces

Lumumba to turn to Moscow asking for Russian support, the things in the country worsen.

Disagreement appears between Prime Minister Lumumba and president Casabumbu and they both cease to recognize each others titles and position.

The westerns take the chance to support Mobutus Coup détat.

  • Soon things changed though, the Belgians were still in control of the central command and the army. When the Congolese demanded

the delegation of command to them, Brussels answered with the dispatch of armed forces to the area. At the same time they promoted the rival of Lumumba, Moses Tsombe to proceed to the secession of Katanga, a bronze/cobber rich area, still under the control of the Belgians.

Chaos takes place and Lumumba applies to the UN, asking for protection.

  • Translation (1):

Lumumba: Today victory is ours. I welcome you on behalf of the government of Congo.

Narrator: Furthermore the King of Belgium, Bodouen, was also present.

And his presence was interpreted as reconciliation with the Belgians and that their long term colonial-control of the area would end.

  • Brother Patrice Lumumba was one of the greatest sons of Motherly Africa.

Brother Lumumba was sharp, he didn't speak that much, but he wasn't afraid to win freedom amongst our people not only in the Congo, but in Africa as a whole.

Brother Patrice Lumumba was a hero and his soul will never be forgotten.
