Sharif Ghaznavi remains along with Tufail Niazi Sa'ab the finest singer of Heer Ranjha. His voice has this old age warmth. In this clip we hear Ranjha, newly inducted into the clan of Jogis and pestered by the village girls of Rangpur for his clumsiness, responding to them with a sense of the wounded selfhood. The lions, snakes and the faqirs, he says, cannot be spatially bound. They have all renounced the safety of homes. The images are from the works done by the finest Persian painter, Parvaneh Etemadi, whose works have an incredibly quiet and dignified sense of time...
