I finally manned up and started the worm compost bin in my kitchen. It's filled with newspaper, red worms and my food scraps.

  • First of all, allow me to say that I absolutely love your channel. That is, since I discovered it last week. Anyway, I was wondering have you uploaded a how to step by step video on setting up a worm compost bin? I was wanting to start a worm compost bin really soon and not for sure on how to properly set one up. Thanks in advance,

    Jayden.

  • @JaydenSummers2010 Thanks. Unfortunately I never had luck setting up my own compost bin. I gave it three tries before I gave up. I'm now using a Worm Factory 360 and the worms are doing great.

  • I attended a workshop @ the Botanical Garden, and actually made a mini indoor bin. Wednesday I'm going to pick up a proper bin and more worms at Union Square! So excited! :-)

  • That's where I got my worms from. She is so helpful and informative. Good luck and keep me updated.

  • a couple of tips and I'm a novice- keep a water spray bottle near to keep the paper damp, you don't want the environment dry.

Also, you can freeze scraps to use later- I sometimes put mine in my killer blender and the freezing actually breaks it down a little before you feed the worms. RE: flies- if you keep the worm bed covered with damp ( not wet) paper over the scraps you'll cut down on fly issues. I'm still on a learning curve. Also- no meats/poultry/fats, etc. they get rancid.

  • Good stuff. Thanks for the tips. I blend up the scraps once in a while, but will definitely do it more. Makes total sense. Will also keep the scraps covered. Good lookin out on the tips. Appreciate it.
