Fly Fishing in a 115 feet of water. Topwater Stripes. Fly cast through the wind and cut it low and lay down your own tied fly. Purity is the ultimate reward. Enjoy. Respectfully, Capt. Josh Pile. www.outoflinefishing.com
@MrZep62 Optimal water temp is not avail. to land locked stripers. The burst is to get them down to the the proper temp meaning thermo C. I try to save our fish because it is my business. Come to the lake and watch the dead stripers left floating after the catch and you will see nasty. You can't release them like a trout and revive them in that manor. You got to get them deep. Our water temp at surface exceeds 89 at times. Rather safe than sorry. Tight Lines. Let em go and let em grow.
In lakes the striper are pretty stressed at times and need a thrust back to deeper water or they will simply belly up many times and never make it back down to a depth where they will survive. Many stripers caught on lakes die especially in summer... If you can get them in and throw them back out fast headed for deep water they may live! In cooler weather they seem to do fine just letting them go but not in the heat. We want to rip their lips another day!
Nice fish, great dual camera shots of the fight. But one thing I don't understand and I see it over and over with guys catching Stripers (I fly fish the salt for them) why do so many fisherman give them the nasty head first heave into the water when releasing? The poor fish is completely depleted of oxygen why not give it a few seconds of your time to cradle it under the water and make sure it's revived? Just my opinion and this fisherman isn't the only one who does it. Tight lines.
