@jmaioran...Many Americans (myself included) haven't 'lost the care and concern to support one another.' The problem is that government is a lousy institution for that to occur. While supporting others, I can't share my faith with those I would support through government channels - yet they take my money. 50% of the entire country doesn't pay ANY federal taxes - yet they vote for politicians who promise them more freebies - which, of course, entails taking tax money from those who work.

@johnlorican this is hogwash. Your conservatism is corporatism. From years of tension, racism and consumerism, American's somehow lost the care and concern to support one another. To a large degree, poverty and isolation has become reasoned as "their own fault". Your health care, education have become pay as you go. It's sad, and post like yours confirm that most of you have gotten there, without recognizing it. It is unfortunate. You're going to react to this post emotively. Think it over

I am not sure if I would be so brave like them.
African-american who still fight for respect: YOU GOT A BRAZILIAN FAN!
You have my respect.

I admire them so much! Can't help the tears. Here in the south of Brazil, Santa Catarina (state) teachers have been on strike for more than 50 days. Many gave up cause of discounts in their salaries, others remained camping in front of the Education Board, some in front of the Deputies Building, many had no food to eat and the community helped. Bu then, at a certain point, we were betrayed by our Union's president and the movement started to end. Dictatorship is back in Brazil.

If there some reason why we can't hear those in the film?

@StephenArriz You mean you just learned this now?

We still have plenty of work to do, but I thank God I wasn't born in that time period...I wouldn't have been able to handle it as so many did, so bravely...

this comes to show that a country doesn't govern its people, its people govern the country.

@w0083e5c ....how about we agree that 'it wasn't nice.'
I guess I'm prone to concentrating on the discussion of issues - not demeaning others...
I always wonder if the people who were involved to any degree with the Civil Rights movement in the late '50's/early '60's - and what was defined as 'liberalism' in that time period - still define themselves as being 'liberal' today.
I listen to MLK's speeches from 1963 and before, and the themes are reflective of conservative thought in the year 2008. I'm a political conservative today, but would have been a liberal fifty years prior; they are very closely aligned.

Call me a young liberal white new england idealist, but I'd have willing marched with the blacks into the gaping maws of the racist south. Infact, I wouldn't totally bar the use of crowbars on rednecks.
