I'm still copying from different masters of each style. And that how I developed. If you follow this tradition, I believe you may benefit the most from those masterpieces rather than being confined by a contemporary. In our culture, it's generally believed the ancient masterpieces have more depth and will cultivate your development of personal calligraphy style to a higher level while a contemporary's work might make your artistic path convenient but not insightful for the long term.
Per our Chinese culture, it's recommended to copy the original masters' models rather than a comtemporary's work. As in 001Asoer's channel, Prof. Tian has explained in his video "Students of Chinese calligraphy, don't copy me. 書法學者毋臨今人 "
Every teacher has something different to offer. My first teacher only does one style (Yan Zhengqing style) in his lifetime - so I practiced only that style for seven years before learning other styles.
I still have to tell you that your shufa is excellent. There is a teacher here that is supposed to be famous, but I don't think his kai shu is very good (or any of the styles he does), but yours is amazing.
