This is a 'graphic novel' setup I did for myself a couple years ago set to the audio book for this chapter. This is NOT the entire novel and all images and audio are used under the Fair Use Act. I pieced other people's art together with the words to make images I liked...It recently occured to me that this could be set to the audio and help make the story a little more visual until a decent effort is made by someone with money and permission :)

The art clips come from MANY different sources all around the world, the final part (#9) will include the credit. Some are unknown and I would appreciate assistance giving anyone credit for their bit. I pieced the art together in Photoshop CS2 playing with the various filters and new warp techniques. You can see the neat warp function used in the beginning of part 3 on the little map. This was a flat image I curled the edge of and put a little tear in it - came out pretty good.

The end result is a very ecclectic and scattered group of images which directly relate to the text and are sometime staggering in their quality. I have to say here Ted Nasmith and a couple other Tolkien artists did much of the later work but alot of the first few parts is almost entirely fan art. My original conception was to do it entirely with fanart (thus you see pencil, watercolors, ...) but that ended up being unfeasible while keeping with the quality I personally enjoy. So we cheat a little and I can do anything other than enjoy it...oh well! Download it!!!!!!

  • Tolkien, last of the Old World Bards. Nobody writes or speaks like that anymore. His works are not merely literature, they are written treasures of an ancient past.

  • @LeBearExtrordinare The audiobook here is being narrated by Martin Shaw.

Christopher Tolkien was the one who arranged the Silmarillion into the version that got published in 1977. He left out a heck of a lot though. It's tricky to put it together because there are many different forms of story. For example, this story about Luthien was intended to be a massive long poem (in old-style rhyme) over 4000 lines long. Tolkien wanted this poem version to be published *with* LOTR in the 1950s.

  • @kennedy5414 Do not you understand the jargon....

  • is this another world war story from JJ Zero Fantasy switching real persons to elfs and gnolls ???

  • Sweet! Great work

  • Ive read this book so many times and it is by far my favorite Fantasy litterature ever, though incomplete.

This here "graphic novel" is pure bliss for a fan of Silmarillion, thank you ever so much. May your deeds be heard far beyond the sea in the western lands and your place in Mandos halls forever be earned :)

  • @LeBearExtrordinare It's Christopher Tolkien. His oldest son I believe.

  • sorry to go off topic, but is this story being narrated by the Old Spice guy???

  • @psyclops9 Tolkien is far beyond Homer. Tolkien is so much more. Its a shame alot of people who care about art, in whatever form it may come. are too ignorant and conservative to ever recognize it in their own times, and instead always look to the past.
