Old WWI era machine guns tend to overheat easily and are very heavy,thus not so mobile.The range and destructive power is not very good by today's standards.But MokomaSusi is right.Without cover any approaching soldiers would be slain by this WWI gun.

i dont think it wud be able to stand up to an MG-34,MG-42, M60, Browning .50 cal, or most modern machineguns...
