I was at this race. Jim Guthrie's car stopped right in front of the infield where I was sitting and the back park of the car was completely sheered off leaving the engine with no exhaust so the engine was just firing at full throttle and it was louder than all holy hell. You can kind of hear it right after he hits the wall and it starts burping really loud. He was moving, but he had a couple broken ribs from the incident.

Jim Guthrie (the black and white car that hit almost head on) was hurt in this crash, I beleve he was the only injury.

Its good to see sam is still an owner in Indycar. He doesnt run a full time Indycar ride..but he does the 500 and has a few cars in Indy Lights. He hired Ana Beatriz last year which i think will be the first woman to win the 500..if you go to an Indy Lights race this year and watch her..youll see.

ye it was cause he was testing there and had a huge shunt and backed it in the wall that hard, it paralyzed him.
shame likes cause he is a good driver, i liked him when i was watcing indycars back in 99

I believe Schmitt got injured in during practice for the first race of the 2000 season in Walt Disney World Speedway.

No, I believe he was injured sometime in 2000, but I'm not sure when and where. He did race in the 1999 Indy 500 and was having a great run until he got loose and backed into the wall in turn 1 about 1/3rd of the way through.
