Here is a Vintage 1972 Sony 'Cassette-Corder' Cassette Tape Recorder, Model TC-66. This recorder was bought by me at an estate sale, and sat in a closet most of its life (no batteries inside). The original belt is still installed, and works perfectly. All functions have been tested, with great results. This is an AC bias recorder, which provides excellent playback of recorded material. The speaker is large, and has clear room filling sound. The amplifier is very strong (4 watts power), and can be VERY loud at high volume. This unit has great bass, and does not sound 'tinny' at all. A very well constructed unit in every way. It was manufactured by the Sony Corporation in Tokyo, Japan and distributed by Superscope Incorporated from Los Angeles, California. It uses 4 'C' batteries. The white function keys are still a bright white color (white plastics of this age are usually yellowed with time). They certainly don't make them like this anymore! Thanks for watching!

  • According to the tape you've player, that Sony originally came with a demo tape. The cassette doesn't look like something out of the '70s. Is it a copy of the Sony demo tape?

  • Hey Frritzz- Yes, it is a direct copy that I recorded onto the cassette from my Sony reel to reel demo tape using the 'Aux In' jack on the side of this unit.

  • I've still got the same model, black leather case and all with the rectangular mic with dual plug (included a pause remote switch). Mine was purchased in 1971 and still operates like new. This was standard issue for radio reporters/journalists because of its exceptional quality, reliability and durability in the field. When Sony came out with the handheld portable that became my workhorse of choice. What a blast out of the past dude. ^^

  • Nice machine. I have a similar SONY demo tape on a 5-inch reel. Sony made some good machines in the day. And some of their cassette machines came with demo tapes as well!

  • VERY nice recorder! The quality is excellent. I have a 3" reel with that same S-O-N-Y demo, it came with a Sony TC-123. By the way, what ever happened about the Panasonic cassette recorder with the no-sound amp? I haven't got it yet. Thanks.

  • a nice little sony i love to have demonstration tapes too i found a lot off recorders but no demonstrations tapes for the moment cheers
