W.O. MacDonald was one of the soldiers pinned by the Taliban at the "White School" in the Panjwaii district in Afghanistan on August 3 2006. Four soldiers (Private Kevin Dallaire, Cpl. Bryce Keller, Cpl Christopher Reid and Sgt. Vaughan Ingram) were killed that day, and many others injured. W.O. MacDonald has received the Star of Miltary Valour and the Vimy Award for his bravery in the field. Video by Rick MacWilliam/Edmonton Journal, editing by Kelly Zenkewich

WO MacDonald. Vaughan was a good friend of mine in 2VP and 2 Commando. We served in Somalia together. Thank you of sharing this story. You're a good man!

The quintessential soldier and leader. Obviously a very humble and compassionate man, too. Great to see such intelligent leadership among our senior personnel. His troops are very lucky to have him!

W.O MacDonald.
I am honoured to have you recall your story in front of my paintings. You are an inspiration to all Canadians and it is actions like yours and those of your colleagues that serve to not only inspire all Canadians but also remind us of what freedom is and how precious it really is. It is with my heartfelt thanks that I state that on behalf of all Canadians, we thank you for your sacrifice along with all members of the Canadian Forces.
Sincerely,
Joe Green
