In lesson 5 we look at the pitch on a turntable and try to see what this has to do with harmonic mixing.
THIS DOES NOT APPLY IF YOU HAVE THE MASTER TEMPO FUNCTION!

  • Groovindj has a point , I heard about the possibility of changing the "colour" or "key" of the music witht the DJM-800 !

  • to silvialain, i agree, this is for another video soon! j

  • channel 2 scared me at 4:49...

  • this is down to the vol being up and me taping the turntable , resulting in movement on the needle. j

  • If i got the Master Tempo function i don't have to bother about this right?

  • to Hingst,no, the master tempo will keep the key for you giiving you the option of using the pitch to it's fullest extent. j

  • @lambd01d Oops I meant if you pitch a track up 6%, it goes up 1 semitone, but the second part of my comment still stands, as the interval between the 2 starts to resemble a minor 2nd(which is dissonant).

  • If you pitch up a track by 3%, it changes key by one semitone, so if you have 2 tracks in the same key and their tempos are within 3% of each other, then they should sound OK together.

  • really greatttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • shut up....fuck!!!!

  • can i have one of your old mixers?? with your autograph?

  • @DJhattymarris Yes, that function stretches time without affecting the pitch, so in theory it's designed to do that. In practice, my opinion is that it sounds SO atrocious, that one would never, ever want to touch it.

  • Here's a SECRET folks, if you key all of your vinyl tracks at 1 CONSISTENT bpm (ie: 130bpm for House) & THEN learn the pitch of the tracks relative to that bpm, it doesn't matter where your sliders are anymore as long as your tracks are beatmatched to each other. Play a Hip-Hop track beat-matched w/ a House track and they'll stay in pitch. ;o) Check out some near perfect harmonic blend examples on my on my page. ANTHONY JAOCBS

  • hi john,

i have a question perhaps regarding mixing in key... does traktor scratch pro's "key lock" function mean that regardless of the change in tempo... the songs' will remain in key?

  • What lens do you have on your camera that allows the viewer to see a widescreen view of what you're doing? I need one of those badly. Thanks.

  • hey is that a pioneer DJM-800 panel you got there?
