An Evangelical from a Conservative Background, Dr. Rocky White is Not Your Typical Advocate for Single-Payer Healthcare
While there are differences between the healthcare plans offered by Democratic presidential opponents Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, neither of them is proposing a single-payer system of national healthcare. That's despite the endorsement of precisely such a plan last December by the American College of Physicians, the largest medical specialty organization. We speak with Dr. Rocky White, a passionate, if unusual, advocate for a single-payer health insurance program. He describes himself as an evangelical from a conservative background and is on the Board of Directors of the nonprofit Health Care for All Colorado. [includes rush transcript]

  • Single Payer now; any other reform will not do...

  • I read the book, The Healthcare Meltdown. Very good. Healthcare for ALL is a Christian Value. I am a born-again Christian. HR-676 single-payer.

So many Christians oppose; I don't see how they can. Stand on a decision they know will cut out their brothers in Christ.

I also like that part of Sarah Thompsen's "Is It For Freedom." I too am a folk musician/singer/songwriter; many songs in concern for healthcare crisis.

  • Most christians don't have "real morals" they think denying gays rights and believing the earth is 6,000 years old is a moral. This evengelical is takng a moral stance not because of his faith but inspite of it. I was raised in an Evangelical home and church. They teach so much arrogance and nonsense.

  • Good for you. I can never understand why 98% of Christians I know are so hate-filled.

  • Sadly, some people worship money...Its too bad because, without them, we wouldn't be having this conversation. God Bless America - we are going to need faith in the months ahead; if not years.

  • Health care should be rebuilt to serve poor and middle class families.
