I remember that we were told to tuck our medals in our jackets when stepping down from the airplane.
When I got out and I saw how many people were out there, I quikly went back into the plane because I was scared, I didnt know why they came.

Very moving. Thank you for posting this! I always love watching footage of Olympic heroes and their homecoming. I saw one of the 1940's track star Fannie Blankers Koen of Holland (I think) and it was amazing! It looked like the whole of her country had come out to greet her. I saw similar footage of other Olympic Champs like Decathlon star Bob Mathias. Warms the old heart. :)
