This video series will cover the 2010 World Chess Championship taking place in Sofia between the current champion Viswanathan Anand and the challenger Veselin Topalov. For this series I will be focusing mainly on my impressions of the games as they take place, as opposed to detailed computer analysis. The game PGN's will be placed on my blog and I encourage you to analyze the games and post your thoughts on the lines and the action that goes down on the 64 square battlefield.

  • @ stephsteph you're a cunt for the spoiler comment in game 3.

Regardless watched this whole series, great play from anand. Watching topolavs play has definitley reinforced my assertion that agressive chess isn't good chess.

I'm impressed that topolavs was able to draw some of the matches he did.

  • great analysis

  • at 25:23 why doesnt topalov play Qg1 protecting the pawn??

  • oh my god...... topalov's aggression really worked against him. it must've been hugely disappointing for him after getting so close to winning the match. in regard to anand not making the most efficient/elegant finish to the game, i believe he was playing to keep topalov in a vice as you said. his own path to victory certainly looked more crushing than the elegant approach, and it might've been a message to topalov that he owns the "d4 showdown" whether he's playing the white or the black pieces
