The tapping lick from "Crown of Thorns" from the album "Attack",by Yngwie Malmsteen and the arpeggio from "Demon Driver" from "Eclipse",always by Yngwie Malmsteen!Due to lack of equipment I used my microphone to record and some photos of my Malmsteen signature strat.   • is it easier or more difficult to play when the frets are scalloped like that? very nice playing btw

  • Well,it's pretty much the same...However with a scalloped fretboard you get better grip on the strings(and so easier bents and vibrato) but lose speed in the high register.

  • That tone could come not only from his signature pickup arrangement, but the scalloped frets...Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore and Steve Vai (on occasion) used scalloped fret guitars and it results in a much more isolated sounding and cleaner note when struck.
