It was another shocker from the law courts, when a Mombasa judge declared that the election of ali mwakwere in 2007, as Matuga MP, was null and void. Other than handing out justice belatedly as it may have been, the courts are also redeeming themselves of that dubious tag of not being able to deal with election matters. NTVs Jamilla Mohammed reports that the ruling was the latest in a series of breath-taking decisions, as the courts embark on a rare crackdown on election irregularities.

  • because a suit and tie do not make a man.

  • A glimpse of democracy. A very powerful message to the elite. Even better to come, will be the power to recall MP's.

  • Ayub! don't light your candle yet. I am 1 person that is so much opposed to poverty. & I think mwakere was a bad man, but should b left alone, he only has 2 yrs to go! the rest hv no money or voice to b heard! or power! mombasa pple hv no respect for a suit and tie! why is that?

  • @Karuthia..i agree with you but it takes years and alot of keen eye for the constitution for this to take place. Democracy and peoples rights is not about constitution or education it's practicing the constitution and obeying it such that it comes as second nature even for people who have never been to school. This is why US, Britain and the likes obey the laws

  • @thepolarden1..... what kenya needs is a version of the US marshal. They are the ones who serve petition papers. the US marshal service is entrenched in the constitution because they serve the courts. If the AP's can have their office in the constitution and strictly serve the courts we will not have these issues

  • @thepolarden1.....Legal issues cannot be diluted like that. if that is the case then judges should use webcams from the comfort of their bedrooms. and voters should vote from their home computers. will that make sense to you?

  • that's courage

  • I Kenyans stopped being ignorant and understood their rights. I you are arrested by the police unlawfully you as a kenyan can sue. If you car gets damaged by potholes on the roads, you can sue the city council for compensations.

  • In this day and age, personal service should not be a requirement: why can I not serve someone in a newspaper, email, registered post, FEDEX, even Facebook? Personal service will prevent the powerful from being prosecuted!

  • A Kenyan that understands his rights.
